Beverly is a Behavioral Consultant who has worked with individuals
with autism and related disorders in a “hands on” capacity for 25
years. Her formal training includes a B.S. in Education from Western
Michigan University (1981), a M.Ed. in Special Education from
Vanderbilt University (1983), and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology
and Individual Differences from the University of Houston (1995).
Beverly’s graduate work was geared specifically to the study of
autism with an emphasis on self-injurious behavior and intervention
efficacy. She has studied the science of applied behavior analysis
extensively, is trained in the structured teaching model, and has
published research in the area of autism.
Beverly has worked in a variety of settings serving children with
autism including day treatment and residential programs, private
school programs, public schools, community-based programs, and in
families’ homes throughout the country. She is particularly
interested in the behavioral features of autism and specializes in
working with children on the autism spectrum who are experiencing
significant behavioral challenges. Beverly has served as an Autism
Consultant for a statewide grant training parents and teachers, as
Project Coordinator for a statewide intensive treatment autism grant
serving children experiencing especially challenging behaviors, and
was Chairperson for a citywide autism symposium.
As a private consultant since 1987, Beverly has worked with
thousands of individuals with autism and related disorders and is a
national level presenter who has conducted hundreds of training
workshops for teachers, therapists, psychologists, and parents. She
is co-author of a training manual for working with children with
autism spectrum disorders in their homes and communities, and has
been instrumental in establishing intensive early intervention
programs utilizing the principles of applied behavior analysis in
public school programs. Beverly has been recognized for service to
people with ASD by the Autism Society of America-Greater Houston
Chapter and has served as adjunct faculty for the University of
Houston teaching Applied Behavior Analysis to graduate level
educators.
