Susan is an Educational Consultant to many school districts in
Texas. She has a Master of Education (1991), with an emphasis in
severe and profound disabilities, and has a Ph.D. in Educational
Psychology and Individual Differences (1999). Susan holds teaching
certificates in the areas of elementary education, generic special
education, severe and profound disabilities, and severe emotional
disorders and autism.
During her doctoral work at the University of Houston, Susan
completed an internship with the U.S. Department of Education in
Washington D.C. investigating inclusive educational practices
throughout the country, and conducted various research studies using
principles grounded in applied behavior analysis during her graduate
coursework. In 1994, Susan received the Alice H. Hayden award from
TASH, an international honor in recognition of outstanding doctoral
work in special education and achievement in research, teaching, and
community service.
Since 1994, Susan has focused her area of expertise toward children
with autism spectrum disorders, working primarily with school
districts in the areas of educational and behavioral programming.
She has assisted numerous school districts in the development of
policies and procedures for conducting functional behavior analyses,
implementation of behavior intervention plans, as well as provision
of in-home and parent training services. Susan has also helped
school districts implement the principles of applied behavior
analysis for students on the autism spectrum, and has extensively
worked with families of children with developmental disorders in
their homes and communities. Susan has presented at local, national,
and international conferences on a variety of topics and has taught
undergraduate and graduate special education courses on the topics
of applied behavior analysis and exceptionalities. |
